Welcome to my Page

I hope you enjoy my works and feel free to comment. The first painting I am posting is probably one of my favourites..its titled "Early Morning Light, Public Gardens". Its Acrylic on canvas (24"X36"). It was a painting I submitted for a local group show in November of 2005 entitled "Cityscapes". I love painting light and clouds and trees. I enjoyed this composition so much because it had all my favourite elements, including the fact its of a beautiful historical landmark in downtown Halifax.

This was my first attempt in painting acrylics. The subject is a view of my mother's garden. I was apprehensive on painting a large work for my first time but it was a Christmas gift for my mother, and I think I wanted to "Wow" her. From the first brush stroke to the signing of my name it just flowed.I had painted all day and completed the work by late that night (Late November 2003). I was drawn to the rock and the idea of painting reflection in the birdbath.Looking at it now I see many things I would change in it, but I still look at it and am proud of it. Its Acrylic on canvas and is 18"x24".

This is the first attempt to producing a "color study". Normally an 8"x10" I quickly found it useful when producing larger works. It allows me to see a smaller representation of a larger piece I want to produce. Perspective, light, shadow and composition are all factors in working a piece to a larger scale. Growing up I saw my Mother and Father both use this technique. This painting is titled "Farm -Study #1".

This is the larger piece after working out the color study. This painting is titled "Farm-Study#2", and is acrylic on canvas 16"x20". I liked the composition of the old oak tree against the farm house and grain silo. Both paintings were produced in late summer 2004.Sold

This is one of my first paintings I submitted to a commercial gallery. It is titled "Field With Violet". It was painted in the Fall of 2003 and was one of my first attempts at painting in Acrylics. I realized by this first attempt that I loved painting trees and sky. I liked the composition of the small shed under the tree in the middle of a large expanse. My brother pointed out later that the purple in the foreground looks like a figure lying face down, I did not notice until he mentioned it. Its acrylic on canvas and was a 16"X16".Sold

Your page is certainly impressive!

It was a good choice to show the public gardens as the first view.
